Meet DáNeeka Grant, a high school senior passionate about leadership, academic growth, and community service. As Vice President of Girl Code and an advocate for women’s rights and issues, you’ll find her empowering others to prioritize themselves and self-care or raising awareness for important causes. DaNeeka is also the founder of The Sweet Oven, a small bakery dedicated to blending her love for baking with philanthropy through initiatives like “Cupcakes for a Cause,” donating proceeds to local nonprofit organizations. In the future, she aspires to study economics or actuarial science, using her skills to drive innovation and development in Jamaica and beyond. In her spare time, DaNeeka enjoys baking, reading captivating novels, crocheting and exploring makeup and fashion.

Shevornae is a passionate STEM enthusiast with a strong interest in chemical and mechanical engineering, as well as computer science. Currently a grade 13 student at Immaculate Conception High School, she combines academic excellence with leadership and technical expertise. Her journey with GradQuo’s Caribbean Summer Scholars Program (CSSP) began in July 2024, where she participated in thermal dynamics, biomedical engineering, data analysis, and actuarial science courses. Inspired by the program’s emphasis on interdisciplinary learning and innovation, she now serves as a Student Ambassador, promoting CSSP through targeted outreach and engagement initiatives within her school and community. Beyond her ambassadorial role, Shevornae demonstrates her leadership skills as Vice President of the Engineering Society, Treasurer of the STEM-CCT Club, and Assistant Secretary of the ICHS Mechanics Club, where she drives projects encouraging hands-on STEM exploration. Additionally, her commitment to community service shines through her position as Treasurer of the L.A.S. Volunteer Club, where she helps organize impactful initiatives, such as providing care packages for senior citizens and children in need. With aspirations of pursuing a career in chemical or mechanical engineering with a focus on sustainability, Shevornae is determined to tackle global environmental challenges through innovative solutions. Outside her academic and leadership pursuits, she enjoys crime dramas like The Rookie, exploring French culture and language, and listening to R&B music, embodying a well-rounded balance of technical, creative, and cultural interests.

Say hello to Kayla Kerr, an up and coming young scientist keen on advancements in education and educational experiences in the Caribbean. As a current high school student, she works with CSSP to promote additional experiences for high schoolers in the Caribbean, allowing them to see and develop their potential. In the future she hopes to transform research and job opportunities in Jamaica to mitigate the massive brain drain out of Jamaica and the Caribbean. In her spare time you can find her hands working on a project or reading.

Meet Suraiya Matandara-Clarke, a passionate changemaker dedicated to environmental advocacy and leadership. As a multifaceted individual, Suraiya thrives at the intersection of sustainability and community engagement. Currently completing the International Baccalaureate Program at Hillel Academy, she is set to pursue a degree in Environmental Science at Rice University, where she hopes to further her mission of driving meaningful climate action. Suraiya’s leadership journey is marked by a series of impactful roles—she currently serves as Head Girl, is the former Student Council President, the Founder of the environmental non-profit Eco Vision, and the Region 1 Vice President of the Jamaica Prefects’ Association. Her proactive nature and drive for excellence also earned her the role of Grad Quo Student Ambassador. Beyond her leadership endeavors, Suraiya is a published author and an avid reader, with a deep love for fantasy literature. Whether she’s crafting her own stories or escaping into the pages of a novel, storytelling is an integral part of her identity. Looking ahead, Suraiya is determined to revolutionize climate action, focusing on solutions tailored for tropical and climate-sensitive regions like Jamaica. She approaches every challenge with unwavering tenacity and adaptability, always striving to turn obstacles into opportunities.
